I am originally from California, near Berkeley. I am married to the most wonderful woman on earth, Laura (Warne) Benton, of Salinas, California. Laura is a licensed marriage and family therapist in private practice, and a fellow at the Multicultural Family Institute. Before moving to NJ we lived in New Haven, CT, and before that, Pasadena, CA. My philosophical interests center mainly on epistemology (especially skepticism, contextualism, perception, the lottery paradox, closure, safety and sensitivity theories, the significance of disagreement, and the ethics of belief); philosophy of religion (models of providence (especially Molinism and open theism), the divine attributes, the problem of evil, philosophical vs. religious ethics, Kierkegaard, postliberal theology, and MacIntyre); and metaphysics (particularly modality, ontology, mereology, persistence, counterfactuals, agent causation, and time). Some interests of mine besides philosophy: I am a big fan of college football, heavily pleased with Rutgers's recent success (of course, being the homer that I am, I root for Cal, and for the Pac-10 generally). I love coffee, particularly espresso and cappuccino, being so enamored with it that I roast it myself (for more on home roasting, go here). I enjoy books, snow (but otherwise miss the California climate, including the bay area fog), playing cribbage and other games, and am addicted to LOST.
